Alfonso, a well-off-car-salesman in his forties, decides to take a wife on the advice of a friar friend of his. Regina is introduced to him; a religious, pure and beautiful girl who seems to suit him perfectly. The two soon get married, but Regina - who before her wedding had been severe and reserved - reveals a side of her that makes the task of coming up to matrimonial duties difficult for Alfonso. Regina wishes to have a child at all costs and after a short while her wish comes true. The future mother becomes ever more radiant and beautiful in expectation of the event. Alfonso, on the contrary, becomes weaker with every passing day and eventually prostrated to the point of no return. The birth of his child coincides with his death.
