Mosè is an orphan who has been raised by his fellow villagers and has developed into a strong, good-looking boy who everyone likes. In fact, Agnes is secretly in love with him. One day, four lovely Parisians arrive in the village and succeed in disturbing its peaceful routine with their "free and easy" behaviour. They soon return to Paris, but Mosè is still so fascinated by them that he soon follows and, once in Paris, is convinced by Clotilde to remain there. After considerable time, Mosè returns to his home village where he enjoys a triumphant welcome and is presented with some land and a house in which he can settle down and live a pleasant life with the loyal Agnes.
