The lawyer De Papis specializes in cases of legal separation. He is a bachelor and a firm believer in individual freedom. His nephew, though, wants to marry his beloved. In an effort to discourage him, the lawyer allows him to meet some of his clients and hear their stories. Even after hearing the various clients tell their miseries and misfortunes, the nephew does not change his mind. He asks the uncle to go and seek his fiancee's parents' consent to the marriage. The lawyer speaks so eloquently that the unwilling parents finally agree. Even the lawyer is defeated by his own speech and proposes to his secretary.
