Archimede is engaged to the daughter of the king of Syracuse, but falls in love with Diana. The war against Rome is about to begin and Diana is shipped back to Rome. On the ship she gives birth to Marco, but loses her memory and forgets Archimede, the child's father. In Rome she marries Consul Marcello. Years later Archimede is sent to Rome to see the Consul. Upon seeing Archimede, Diana's memory and her love return, but Marcello opposes their return to Syracuse with their child. In the war that follows both Marcello and Archimede die; it is Marco who will take the throne.
