A man is found sitting on Astride, a bronze horse in a square in the middle of Rome. The police unmount him and ask questions, but he is suffering from amnesia and cannot remember who he is. A number of women "identify" him as their long-lost husband. One takes him home - for reasons best known to her! But another claimant takes him away with specious claims of her own. The poor man is finally accused of criminal acts, arrested and put to trial, but he is soon aquitted as it is obvious that he is innocent. After being driven from pillar to post with no one being able to prove his identity, the fatigued and beleaguered victim finds his way back to the square in Rome where he climbs back onto the bronze horse and proclaims to all his protest against society in general
